Life after the circus in the Philippines...

They tried hard not to show it... that they did not want a Trillanes in the senate...

So let's go back to our favorite topic: Philippine showbiz... passed on from e-mails...

"FROM KRIS TO RUFFA TO GRETCHEN
(Desperate Housewives. Philippine Edition)
(Or are we reaping some sort of a negative karma to deserve them?)
The month of June is a good time to review what transpired for the first six months of 2007. For this edition, Conventional Wisdom is focusing on showbiz-related matters instead of the usual politics (which in a way is also show-biz but ......for ugly people). Read on.
Kris Aquino. Loser. While she is the innocent one in the whole James-Hope brouhaha, Conventional Wisdom thinks that she could have handled the incident with more dignity and privacy. One wonders why this drama queen wants to inflict her day-to-day saga with the whole planet. From exaggerating her "life-threatening" pregnancy, to lambasting her husband in public ("O magsalita ka? Totoo namang pina-palayas na kita sa bahay a?"), to actually using Ninoy to promote a cake in her latest commercial. Kris' next endorsement should neither be beer nor pastries but laundry detergent for her unquenchable desire to always wash her very dirty underwear in public.
James Yap. Loser. One word : cad. As one writer succinctly said : "What do you expect from a provincial boy who suddenly became famous and wealthy?" The last time we witnessed a showbiz cad was during Gabby Concepcion's time. James is now second in our list. Conventional Wisdom is giving them maximum of 3 years as a couple. Kris is starting to look more and more mature and matronic. James is still young. Give James sometime, and after Hope - - Faith and Charity will spring forth.Moral of the story. Smoking is bad for marriage: Kris had Philip, James had Hope. Conventional Wisdom can't take any More of this!!!
Ruffa Gutierrez / Annabelle Rama: The mother and daughter (MAD) team strikes again. From a filmfest scam that made it to CNN, to Brunie-yuki scandal that merited a senate hearing, and now, the falling out with Ylmaz - - which is desperately being peddled out as Philippines vs. Turkey. Oppressor vs. Victim.
Ruffa Gutierrez: Loser. A desperate act from a has-been, middle-aged B-actress who is trying to make a come-back by capitalizing on whatever publicity that can be squeezed out from this split. From caterwauling one minute "Hindi ko na kaya Kuya Boy!", to coyly saying the following week "Ligawan nya (Ylmaz) ulit ako" to having her born again baptism rites captured on cam and then heading off to Las Vegas the following week to relax and do damage control (about his marriage five years ago in Las Vegas). Ruffa, you're act is getting stale. You have become so predictable and boring.
Annabelle Rama. Winner. For always a character that she is. For being consistent in her act and for being our constant source of amusement. Conventional Wisdom almost fell off its chair when this motor-mouth fish-wife asked Dolly Ann to return the cosmetics she gave her and then, proceeded on by actually naming two unknown women on national television to pay their debts to her since she now has to take care of Ruffa and her grandchildren : "Hoy, so and so...magbayad na kayo ng utang nyo sa akin dahil marami na akong papalamunin ngayon" or something to that effect. Panalo talaga si Bisaya. I strongly suggest to PGMA that we give this woman a postion in the government preferably as Head of our National Defense. Asap.
Dolly Ann Carvajal. Winner and Loser. A lot of people don't like this woman. For one, she is not pleasing to the eye. Her gay son looks a lot better than she. And admit it or not, she became a writer thru her connections - mom and aunt. But being objective about the whole thing, Conventional Wisdom thinks that Dolly Ann is on the right this time. Why can't the mother and daughter (MAD) tandem just answer the questions posed by Dolly Ann? Why can't Annabelle stick to the issues instead of pointing out something we already know : how ugly Dolly Ann is.What makes Dolly Ann a loser is her constant use of her departed mom's legacy and memory whenever someone would diss her out. Honey, stop hiding under the skirt of your mom. You are not a sacred cow.
Pia Guanio. Loser. What a lousy lousy interviewer. The depth of her talent as a host is as long as her irritating mini skirts. Do us a favor Pia, ask Bossing to marry you already and then fade into oblivion.
Gretchen Baretto. Loser. One word : Wow. The affectations of La Greta can only matched by her delusions of grandeur. From the looks of it, she is experiencing the early on-set of a mid-life crisis. She has been picking fights left and right...with Lani Mercado, and then with Dawn Zulueta. From her classic statement about the looks of her own daughter : "Naaawa nga ako dahil karamihan ng tao ang sabi kay Dominique, kamukha sya ng tatay nya?". And now the "friendly beso-beso" lip-lock with John Estrada. Please explain to Conventional Wisdom - - "How can this be a friendly kiss when you and John looked so orgasmic in that shot?Gretchen is a classic example of "langaw na nakatungtong sa kalabaw, pero feeling mataas pa sa kalabaw." Someone should already tell this woman to seek professional help. Sober up and clean your act sister. You are no Paris Hilton. More like Plaster of Paris Hilton.
Cesar Montano, Richard Gomez, Manny Pacquiao, etc. - Losers. No further explanations needed.
Borgy Manotoc. Loser. Please. Please. From one scandal to the next. From one basag-ulo to the next. We have enough of you and your sap-sap mouth face. Will someone already put this psycho behind bars?
Butch Francisco and Dolly Ann as writers. Losers. Please don't waste precious newspaper space writing about personal stories that nobody (repeat, nobody!) finds interesting at all. From your maid's antics to your experience as a judge of Slimmers World Mr. and Ms. Ek ek, to a current love who inspires you. Please! A tree gave up its life to have these newspaper printed. Have I mentioned that nobody is interested?
Belo's Billboards. Loser. Hideous. Plain hideous. Whoever is advising Vicky (I can't call her Doctora Vicky because as Osang said, she was a mere aerobics instructor before) to put out all those monstrosities should be charged with Human Rights violations. From the disturbing Chrismas billboard last December, to Richard Gomez's billboard pre-campaign period, to Ai-ai's scary shot. Conventional Wisdom would rather stare at the billboards of Ellen's Beauty Salon(with Ellen as the model herself) than see these Belo ads.
Nora Aunor. Loser. To be a has-been superstar drug dependent in your fifties is bad enough. To be caught doing drugs in another country is worse. To be found-out to have married another woman many years ago for a US green-card is worst. Ate Guy is a classic example of a person blessed with so much talent and opportunity gone to waste.
Regine Velasquez - Ogie Alcasid. Losers. Regine is what ... nearing 40? As someone said "from her demeanor to her utterance, Regine is trying very very very hard to hold on to youth." And if I may add, failing miserably. This home-wrecker who speaks with an American sleng-sleng should act her age. Seeing her kilig-reaction about the admission of Ogie made me lose my appetite for dinner. Conventional Wisdom is really worried that anytime soon, Regine's face and body will collapse. From her hair extension, her fake long eyelashes, her fake nose, her man-made eye slits, her tooth-caps with gums, and her Gluthathioned skin, her fake boobs. Last we heard, her movie with Piolo flopped big time. Nobody wants to see a May - December love story anymore. Or more correctly, a May 1960 - December 2007 love affair story anymore. These are the people that are giving Conventional Wisdom constant migraine the past months. If this trend continues until December, aneurysm can't be far behind.
Pass this on until it reaches the following: Ylmaz Bektas, Mother-in-law of Gretchen., Hope, Vic Sotto, PGMA, Michelle Van Something, Letty Magsanoc, and Gov. Vi. Never interrupt your enemy when he is busy making a mistake. -- Napoleon.

"Ulaw" for Senator!!!

All the ads reviewed earlier were already pulled out on national television. As if this blog's reviews are making an impact...But let us continue this review...

Noynoy Aquino - dati, me isip ka na by staying away from Kris Aquino scenes as much as possible... Ano'ng nangyari! Showbiz ka na rin? TOTOO BANG IPINAGBILIN ni Ninoy si Kris sa IYO? E bakit ganu'n?

Tessi Oreta - nung sumayaw ka sa Senado, you were the personification of %#@. Open daw yata sila for new talents! Paging Miss Joy Cancio!

  • it's just another moronic day in a Philippine government office

O come'on.

Say you're just confused.

National Paint & Monay ni Mr. Shooli

It's the biggest circus event once again in fiesta islands Philippines come May 2007! Once again, our Philippine treasury will get ready to launch the careers (or continue dynasties and monopolies) of our dear mayors, and their council, to the tune of about P25,000-P30,000 per month (each elected official), of our dear governors and their board members and vices, congressmen and senators (imagine their monthly budgets, not to mention their pork!)... You can only imagine!

It's a circus where the joke is on us taxpayers!

And yes, Mr. Shooli and Kabayan Leo, buti pa kayo, nakakapagpatawa, in this bloody shitty Filipino time! While the rest of us weep in silence!

For starters, to feel what's in for us, let's rate their paid television advertisements (Please allow me to write the proper address Honorables here):

Osmeña: a zombie puppet from the graveyard.

Mike Defensor: he should have his copywriter lynched. But then, I am not surprised if his ads were his idea (he had several versions of paid talents shouting from a dark distance inside a studio) "Tol, tol!" Obviously, the ads speak for the candidate: distant, someone you are not sure exists, tambay na nangguguyo ng kapwa. I mean, take this: writing a (pseudo) personalised letter to prospective principals addressing them with names like Miss Tapia (Matagal nang wala ang Iskul Bukol, tol!) Iron-oxide in scientific terms.

Manny Villar: Sa totoo lang, if not for porks, I can say nothing against this entrepreneur-turned-politician.

Ralph Recto: Traditional politician legitimized, dancing for all! Pang piesta talaga!

Click this.

At si Manny Pacquiao for congressman/or mayor:

It's a disease. No one has yet created the cure. Supposedly, kayong mga nasa kongreso at senado ang gumagawa ng batas para magkaroon ng kabuluhan ang sistema ng gobierno natin, kaso, you have been letting us Filipinos down since the congress and the senate were returned.

Gising Pinoy!

Alien Inside a Sealed Softdrink Bottle???

Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur-Several years back, a sari-sari store owner reportedly complained to a truck salesman about a sealed bottle of softdrink delivered to her store containing a huge dirt. The salesman apparently got the dirty bottle and replaced it with another.

Recently, another report was sent to site administrator of the same label who delivered a sealed softdrink bottle with a huge solid chunk inside it to another sari-sari store.

As of press time, this site is still trying to contact the sari-sari store owner regarding the softdrink bottle so that through internet media, we could request proper assistance from the right authorities as well as the proper action to be done with multi-national corporations (MNCs) commodiy manufacturers who take these serious matters so lightly.

This has already been reported in another website but the implication of this matter is not to be taken lightly. The public have the right to know:

  • whether or not the content of the softdrink bottle is safe for consumption,

  • that the contaminated bottle would be inspected by the Food and Drugs Administration or its equivalent

  • that the batch must be properly certified by health authorities not to endanger lives

  • whether or not the batch of the contaminated bottle was already sold out

  • if there was a control system in the softdrink manufacturer's deadlership so that the batch of the said contaminated softdrink could be pulled out in case there was a danger to consumers

  • how far proper government agencies will go in order to protect the consumers in this liberal democratic society

  • whether this is a proper way of disseminating consumer foods

  • whther this is a right business practice.

There are a lot of things that this MNC manufacturer have to answer to the public, and health and safety of the public is the first.

This site will do its best to update this matter with the latest developments.

The Lure of Vigan

More than a decade ago, Vigan was a sleepy old town bereft of appeal except of its old “bahay na bato” or Castilian houses made of massive walls, tiled roofs, and capiz windows equally massive but definitely tropical, lined up in several streets now called The Heritage Village.

Its appeal attracted not only former (and deceased) presidential aspirant Fernando Poe Jr. but also international moviemakers using the town either as a historic European town or a Spanish pueblo for location shoots.

Although much of the anachronistic stores and auto repair shops still dot some of the area’s tourist spot, Vigan has improved a lot since the joint Spanish and Local Government projects focused on architectural renovation. Soon after, the town became a city in early 2000 and bloomed like a fair lady coming of age.

In visiting Vigan, there are a lot more surprises than the walk along Florentino or Crisologo Streets and visits in museums. The area along the Plaza Burgos and Saint Paul Cathedral had been developed by the BCS Realty Group and now brags of Plaza Maestro which was like an Ayala Center in lay-out and design, adapting Vigan architecture with open piazzas and retaining old acacia trees within its premises. It houses several international and local boutiques and fast food outlets, as well as National Bookstore.

Another regular Vigan fare is the “empanadahan” which has been moved from the east to the southern part of Plaza Burgos where visitors see what they actually eat and how it is done as kneading, mixing of ingredients and cooking is done right in front of the customers.

Construction boom in Vigan is prevalent even along the entryway from the Banaoang Bridge in Bantay as housing subdivisions and development are on-going --- such as Alta Mira. New hotels dot the area going to the revived city (as Vigan was used to be Ciudad Fernandina).

Whereas there had been limited choices of places to stay in Vigan before, today, one of the most modern yet still Castilian in design is Vigan Plaza Hotel. I have been in and around the place courtesy of former managing director Randy Singson and it reminded me of Casa Manila, and some modern hotels of Boracay. Luxurious, elegant, modern, and still totally Spanish as this was renovated with the tiling of roofs alone undertaken for three years. Old antique woods were carefully replaced as authentic furniture and amenities were added.

Of course, there are still a lot of other choices such as the Vigan Heritage Hotel, the Aniceto Mansion beside VPH with an authentic indoor wishing well (rumor has it that the well is an underground tunnel that connects to the nearby convento of the cathedral!) old Grandpa’s Inn, Mom’s, Cool Spot, El Juliana, Paraiso ni Don Juan, Heritage Resort, Baley Park, or Mel-Sol’s Inn.

But before I close this one, when in Vigan, you might as well visit the Hidden Garden in the southern part of the city where once can experience a tropical solitude beneath bamboo grooves and well-kept flora collection while contemplating on what Vigan pot fits a plant variety you might fancy.

Also, one last note, is Governor Chavit’s Baluarte where one may hitch a ride with tiny spunky horses while gazing at lions, tigers, anaconda’s and road runners around… Then have a glimpse of the infamous mahjong tiles that make-up the gate towards the the mansion on the hill allegedly funded by a round of a gambling session by a former republic president.
And the estimated cost? No doubt an affordable one as Vigan is a tourist destination of international surprises fit for local budget. (Photo taken from wowpinoy.net. Published in Pangasinan Express Trends & Traditions)

Showbiz Chismis Next to politics, Ilocanos are fond of showbiz chismis, so, I'm feeding your fancy now...

The No holds Barred Geneva & Rachel Interview

Singers Geneva Cruz and Rachel Alejandro took the hot
seat today in Magic 89.9's Good Times. The duo played
the celebrity challenge “Forbidden Questions” with DJ
Mo Twister—Mohan Gumatay in real life. German “Kuya
Germs” Moreno was scheduled to be this morning’s
guest, but begged off for personal reasons.

Best friends Geneva and Rachel answered the questions
together, but tapped out on the 30th question—“Which
local reporter do you dislike the most?”

Rachel said: “It would be career suicide.”

Geneva seconded: “it’s not worth it.”

The two were 11 questions short of beating the perfect
40 record of Marcos-scion Borgy Manotoc and talent
manager Lolit Solis. The "Forbidden Questions" format
had the questions rolling every time guests gave an
answer; the questions stopped the moment the guest
refused to give an answer. The guest who successfully
answered all 40 questions was placed at the top of the
totem pole.

Although Geneva and Rachel managed to get only to
Question No. 29, they still gave enough shocking and
scandalous answers.

On dating married men—Geneva answered “Never.” Rachel
revealed: “I have not gone out [with a married man].
We stayed in [laughs]. Of course I knew he was
married. The wife never knew about it, but he also
left her for another girl.”

On singers who have overrated voices—Rachel' s answer:
“Regine Velasquez.” She explained that it was a matter
of preference because she liked singers with big
voices rather than singers with a high range. Geneva
seconded, “Sheryn Regis, because she also has a Regine
feel."

On celebrities with body odor—Geneva said she didn't
know any. Rachel named Jao Mapa as someone who had bad
breath, but swore that she only noticed it once.

On "plastic” celebs or those who gave you a big hug
then dissed you once you were gone—Geneva recounted an
incident. She was having dinner with her boyfriend KC
Montero, ex-husband Paco Arespacochaga, his current
wife Tiny, and Angel Aquino (Tiny’s friend). The
singer-actress said that she overheard Angel
reassuring Tiny that Tiny was prettier than her.
Geneva felt that the comparison was unnecessary
because she wasn’t trying to get Paco back and,
therefore, there was no competition going on between
them. She ended the story by saying that she, Tiny,
and Angel have already resolved things among
themselves.

Meanwhile, Rachel named G Tongi. She said that they
don't really greet each other. Then one day, G
suddenly “touched base” with her. She said that she
suspected G’s manager made G do so.

On artists they dislike working with—Geneva answered:
April Boy Regino. She recounted an incident wherein
she was performing with him and a group of other
Filipino singers in Japan. April, who was supposed to
sing six songs, performed 12 solo songs, thus delaying
the all-star finale.

For Rachel, it was Janno Gibbs, because the
singer/host/ actor was perennially late when they were
still working together.

On losing their virginity—Rachel said she lost hers to
her first boyfriend Dingdong Avanzado when she was 17
years of age. Geneva said she lost hers to her second
boyfriend and ex-husband, Paco Arespacochaga, when she
was 18.

Did they prefer Kapamilya (ABS-CBN) or Kapuso (GMA-7)?
Rachel chose ABS-CBN because, she said, the station
had better signal and better picture quality. She also
admitted that she performed for ABS-CBN’s The Filipino
Channel (TFC) tour. Geneva answered: “GMA!”

On one-night stands—Geneva admitted that she's had
three of these, and that they came after Paco
Arespacochaga and before KC Montero. One of them was
with her good friend Keempee de Leon. Rachel has had
two, both non-showbiz.

On celebrity closet gays—Both stars answered "Sam
Milby." Rachel explained, “He is hot, but he seems
womanly.”

On their choice of the worst actor/actress— Geneva
joked: “KC and Troy [Montero].” Rachel was serious:
“Gary Estrada and Kris Aquino.”

Geneva and Rachel are leaving tomorrow for a series of
concerts in the U.
